Alexandra Lakin is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice includes drawing, painting, digital printmaking and video/ animation.
Her current work investigates narrative, and pushes color relationships and compositional strategies in works on paper. The drawings combine semi-narrative and figurative components with flat abstraction, decoration and repetitious elements. In many of the works, miniature characters are housed in ambiguous, fractured and often subterranean spaces. Frequently both anxiety and a sense of refuge exist between the character and its surroundings. The flatness of the surface traps the protagonists and the suggested narrative is drowned out or presented in equal volume to the abstraction and the decorative nature of the work.
Lakin has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She received an MFA from Alfred University in Electronic Integrated Art in 2005. She lives and works in Los Angeles, Ca.
